Check to see if you have prediabetes
Let’s say you are at a truck stop having dinner, along with 29 other people there. According to medical researchers, 10 of the people in that restaurant will have a condition called pre-diabetes – blood glucose (sugar) levels higher than normal, but not high enough yet to be diagnosed with diabetes.
The bad news is – only one of those people with pre-diabetes know they have it.
Do you know if you have pre-diabetes?
A new effort is under way to educate people about pre-diabetes. Called So… Do I Have Pre-diabetes?, the program is meant to make people aware of the condition because, “People with prediabetes are on the road tend to develop type 2 diabetes within several years, and are also at increased risk for serious health problems, such as stroke and heart disease.”The good news is – pre-diabetes can be reversed through several simple lifestyle changes such as increased exercise and weight loss. The earlier you’re diagnosed with pre-diabetes, the more likely you are you can reverse it and prevent type 2 diabetes.
